Typically, there is an extra charge beyond your safari expenses, and it is wise to plan for around USD15 per porter each day as a fee, with any additional gratuity being at your discretion.
Since the porters lack tracking permits, they will be halted just a short distance from where you will catch a glimpse of the majestic mountain Gorillas. Be sure to grab anything you might need from your bag to enjoy the gorilla viewing experience, and it is best to leave valuables at the lodge or camp for safety.
You will have an exciting hour to observe the gorillas and chimps from the moment your group spots them. This is to ensure that the wild animals are not overly exposed to human presence. When you find yourself in their company, it is essential to maintain a respectful distance of about 5-7 meters, and your guides will be there to make sure this is upheld.
