Tips / Gratuities On Safari — Important Travel Information

Tips / Gratuities On Safari

A challenging topic that frequently sparks curiosity. As the guest, you have the freedom to decide, a common practice in this region, though not mandatory, and it reflects the quality of service you experienced. Here are the guidelines for each passenger traveling:

Gorilla & Chimpanzee Guides: Tips should be placed in the central tip box if provided or given to the main guide who will share them with all the trackers and game guards – around USD15 for the main guide (per guest).

Porters: This is an optional addition, typically hired for about USD15 per porter per day. Tips can vary based on the workload, ranging from USD15-20 per guest for each porter.

Safari driver/guides: USD 5 to 10 per day – per guest, with an average of 4-6 guests in a vehicle. If you are embarking on a private journey, just the two of you, feel free to tip as you see fit.

Lodges/camp staff: We recommend a tip of USD3-5 for each guest during their stay. Numerous quaint lodges feature central tip boxes. In hotels and larger establishments, it is typically up to you to reward those who have excelled in their service.

National Parks Guides (cruises / bird walks): For each guide, the fee is 3.00 to 5.00 USD per guest in local currency.

Hotel porters: Approximately USD 1-2.00 in local currency

For waiters and bar staff, consider leaving a tip of 10% of the bill, or around Uganda Shillings 2000-3000 to show appreciation for their service.
