KAZINGA CHANNEL
The closest and most accessible water body in Queen Elizabeth National Park is Kazinga Channel shoreline; they draw a lot of wild life in the park. Situated in the Kasese district, Kazinga channel is roughly 420 kilometers from Kampala City within Queen Elizabeth National Park. Its estimated top elevation is 914 meters above sea level.
Linking two fresh water lakes George and Edward, it is a long and wide natural canal covering 32km (20mi). The main draw in Queen Elizabeth National Park overall is Kazinga Channel. We call this kind of “mad bathing,” wallowing. Buffaloes wallow in wild to eliminate ticks and other biting insects from their bodies. Most animals quench their thirst on the kazinga channel in the afternoon lunchtime; you may see elephants, buffaloes, monitor lizards, or the largest reptile known in Africa the giant monitor lizard.
Because of the numerous activities available to guests visiting Queen Elizabeth national park, Kazinga Channel—also known as the most popular travel destination in Uganda—is also rather well-known. You will have opportunity to view the fishing communities perched above the stream, including the Kasenyi plains, during the boat tour. Fishermen washing their fishing nets in river can be seen on the boat. Hook fishing lets you also watch tiny boys catching fish using a more primitive and conventional approach. Looking across the stream to the fishing settlements, you will also find ladies fixing the fishing nets to be utilized and men mending their boats.
On a boat excursion along the channel, one can clearly observe Kazinga channel. In Uganda, this launch tour is the most popular one. The boat excursion runs local time from 11 am in the morning till 1pm. It also boasts an evening cruise ranging from 3 to 5 p.m., local time. Where can one access Kazinga Channel?
Starting the boat cruise is from Mweya Peninsular. Mweya Peninsular lies twenty kilometers west of Main Road, Kasese-Mbarara Road. Typical routes of travel from Mbarara to Kasese pass Katunguru.
