Found in the southern portion of Uganda’s Rushaga gorilla trekking area of the cold Bwindi Impenetrable national park, Gorilla leisure lodge is a recently constructed luxury resort.  Just 10 minutes from gorilla tracking and briefing point, the resort is situated close to Bwindi National park headquarters.

The lodge is business friendly and provides a great location for visitors, travelers and holiday makers for safari experiences and leisure to explore the park with its stunning vistas, mild breezes, whispering trees and the forest canopy.

One may be at the resort via road from Kampala / Entebbe which takes around 9-10 hours’ travel and one to two hours fly from Entebbe international Airport or kajjansi airfield then few minutes’ drive to be transported to the close Kisoro airstrip.

Twelve exquisite and luxurious en suite rooms, ranging from deluxe singles for people, doubles as well as family cottages overlooking the forest canopy reflecting African traditional construction style with modern comfort, make up Gorilla Leisure Lodge.

Well decorated, elevated with a raised platform, furnished with en suite private facilities of flushing toilets, hot and cold showers, complimentary bottled water, bathtubs, mosquito nets, flat-screen TVs, hair driers, free toiletries, white duvets and pillows, extinguishers and many more facilities.

Terraces and sitting spaces in rooms have wooden balconies and terraces; you relax and take in the amazing view of the canopy forest and surrounds.  Comfortable beddings with wooden floor and ceiling fan abound in rooms, all clean.  Apart from providing warmth to the visitors at night, the resort features fireplaces where guests unwind and exchange stories about the safaris.

The best and most visited national park in Kanungu district in southwest Uganda is Bwindi woodland Impenetrable national park. More threatened mountain gorillas approximately 19 gorilla groups call the park home. The park covers 330.8 square kilo meters overall. Of the more over 600 mountain gorillas found in Bwindi national park, 19 gorilla families are habituated.

Gorilla trekking takes place in the four sectors that make up the park: Nkuringo, Rushaga, Buhoma, and Ruhijha.  Five gorilla families—Mishaya, kahungye, Nshongi, Busingye, and Bweza— reside in Rushaga Sector, where the resort is located. Two gorilla habituation experiences for Bukingi and Bushaho families also come from Rushaga area.

One can also keep track of Rushaga from Nkuringo.   With a stunning perspective of the forest canopy, the Rushaga sector is the best and most visited one among others forming Bwindi Impenetrable national park.  In bwindi, a gorilla permit is at 800$. The total count of mountain gorillas worldwide is more than seven hundred and eighty-six (786).

Although some of Uganda’s population lives in Mgahinga National Park, most of them reside in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest; Uganda boasts close to half of their whole population here.  There are several lodging options at Bwindi Impenetrable national park ranging from budget, mid-range, to luxury choices. February, March, June, July, September, October, and December is the ideal time to explore Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The park boasts over 150 bird species, thus there are many activities to engage one there; gorilla trekking experience, gorilla habituation experience, Batwa pigmies trail, cultural experience (traditional dances), bird watching/birding; nature walks in the forest, community tours in Bwindi forest, visiting lake Mutanda and Bunyonyi, pursuing golden monkeys in Mgahinga national park, and engaging in many other pursuits.
