The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) protects the 331 square kilometers that make up Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. It is home to rare mountain gorillas, over 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, 220 species of butterflies, 27 species of frogs, geckos, and chameleons. The park is in the southwestern part of Uganda.

It takes about 9 to 10 hours to get from Entebbe International Airport to Kihihi Airstrip, and it takes 1:30 hours to land. The park was created in 1991 to protect these rare apes. Also, the park is home to about 650 of the 1065 mountain gorillas that are still alive and considered rare in the world.

This is half of the living population. There are more than 22 gorilla groups that live in the area. They are split into four areas for gorilla trekking: Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija, and Buhoma.

Eco Marvel Gorilla Resort –Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has a lot of things to do.

Some of them are going on walks with a guide, meeting people from the Batwa community, watching birds, and going on neighborhood walks.

Gorilla trekking is the most popular thing to do at the camp. It starts early in the morning after a lesson. You will start at 8 a.m. with a park official guide who will lead you to the trails in the forest to look for gorillas. The whole thing could take 30 to 7 hours.  Once you give them a home, you have an hour to watch them play, eat, hunt, build a nest, and eat their lunch while you take pictures that will last a lifetime.

Birding: While you’re at the lodge, you can go birding in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest on fun trails with the help of a guide. Some bird species you might see are the Handsome francolin, the Olive-breasted greenbul, the Grauer’s broadbill, the Many-colored bush-shrike, the Purple-breasted sunbird, the Regal sunbird, the African broadbill, the black bee-eater, the Black-faced rufous warbler, and many more.

How to Get There
