Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura

Kyambura Gorge, on the fringes of Queen Elizabeth national park in southern Uganda, provides chimps for tracking under Uganda. A few years ago, the chimpanzees were habituated; their number is estimated to be roughly 19 chimpanzees, trained to be near to people.

Apart from chimpanzee trekking, one may witness various wildlife, birds, and other primates such the white Columbus monkey, the black Columbus monkey, the red tailed monkey and the olive baboon among others. Primates find refuge here because of the riverine forest with wonderful vistas of the green canopy. There is chimps’ trekking accessible all year long.

Chimpanzees’ actions

Chimpanzees usually live in groups of roughly 35 to 80 males, females, or even mixed occasionally.

From the roots of trees, chimpanzees can pack nuts, then break with stones.

Using sticks or twigs, chimps dive into termite holes and then feast from the termite clinging there.

Chimpanzees also dip leaves in water and swallow moisture afterwards.

Chipped leaves are chewed by chimps.

They just cover few distances but walk straight.

Often resting in day time and at night, their quick climbers set up their nests high on tension and readily build them in minutes utilizing tree branches.

Chimpanzees walk on their four feet.

Female chimps birth every four to five years; they do not have a specific breeding season during the year.

The meal of chimps

After several early hours, chimps start eating fruits at daybreak from their nests. Their choices become the riper fruits and they avoid needless picking. Young antelopes or goats help chimpanzees augment their nutrition. Using their hands, they select fruits; berries can be picked straight from their mouth.

Most often, chimpanzees murder newborn blue monkeys, little baboons. Apart from the chimpanzee trekking one may learn more about the stunning canopy of kyambura lying in the gorgeous Savannah with breath taking vistas of the steep escarpment of the rift valley, accomodation units are within the Queen Elizabeth national park.
