This is called “gorilla habituation.” Only in Kibale Forest National Park can you get used to being around chimpanzees. This park is also known as the “primate capital” because it is home to 13 different kinds of primates, such as chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, and more. Chimpanzees get used to living in Kibale Forest National Park by being told about the rules, laws, and standards at Kanyachu park offices very early in the morning. Afterwards, you will begin your one-day walk through the forest with a group of scientists, park guards, park guides, and other experts. Your goal is to find the chimps. You can see chimpanzees and other primates, as well as mammals, birds, plants, and trees, while trekking. Once you find the chimpanzees, you can spend four hours with them in their natural habitat, where you can learn about and observe their behaviors and see them do daily things like feeding, playing, breastfeeding, grooming their young, hunting, resting, building new nests, taking pictures, and more.
How much chimpanzee housing permits cost in Uganda
People from outside of East Africa can get chimpanzee habituation permits in Kibale Forest National Park for 250 USD, people from outside of East Africa can get them for 200 USD, and East African citizens can get them for 200,000 UGX. However, as of July 1, 2024, the chimpanzee habituation pass went up to 300 USD per person for foreigners who are not residents, 250 USD per person for foreigners who are residents, and 250,000 UGX per person for East African citizens.

When is the best time to go on a chimpanzee tour in Uganda?
You can go on a chimpanzee habituation safari in Kibale Forest National Park at any time of the year, but the best time is during the dry season, which is from June to September and December to February. This is because the park doesn’t get as much rain during these months, so the trekking trails will be dry and easy to use. This is in contrast to the rainy season, when the trails are muddy and slippery, making it harder to get used to the chimpanzees.

How to get to the national park of Kibale forest
The Kibale Forest National Park is in the western part of Uganda. To get there, you can drive from Kampala through Mubende and Fort Portal and then to the park offices, which will take about 5 to 6 hours.
It is also possible to get to Kibale Forest National Park by regular or special internal flights from Entebbe International Airport to Kasese runway. From there, you can take a road to the park offices.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is another way to get to Kibale Forest National Park. The drive takes about 5 to 6 hours.
