Why is Gorilla Trekking So Expensive?

The national parks of Mgahinga, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Virunga National Park are home to mountain gorillas.

A gorilla permit costs 800 USD in Uganda, 400 USD in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and 1500 USD in Rwanda. When trail paths are cleared, the foliage covers are removed, and gorillas are always agitated out by large crowds.

The construction of roads, the provision of piped water, the establishment of health and educational facilities, and many other things all contribute to the high cost of gorilla trekking. Local community development is also crucial.

The mountain gorillas are monitored and kept secure; this is accomplished by paying rangers, guards, doctors, and other professionals. Human beings will poach, trap, traffic, and murder mountain gorillas if they are not protected.

The mountain gorillas are found in just three nations worldwide. Because gorilla permits are in high demand all year long, it is always recommended to make reservations eight months in advance to avoid last-minute issues.
