The Ruhijah community rest camp is a cheap place to stay in the Ruhijah sector of Ruhijah Sub County, which is in the eastern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This park is home to more rare mountain gorillas, which can be seen during gorilla hiking in Uganda. It takes 90 minutes to drive from Kabale to the camp and 75 minutes to drive from Lake Bunyonyi.

The camp is close to the monkey hiking point.From Kihihi or Kisoro airport, one can drive or fly to get to camp.  From Kampala, it takes about 8 hours to drive 540 km to get to Bwindi. From Entebbe, it only takes 1.5 hours to fly to Kisoro airport. The house is in a peaceful and lovely nature area with a stunning view of the forest.

The Ruhijah Community Rest Camp has 10 large, comfortable rooms on a raised deck with a view of the forest. The rooms are made in a traditional way using natural materials from the area’s forests and modern comforts.

 

Community Rest Camp at Ruhijah

Each room is nicely designed and has its own private bathroom with a flushing toilet, a hot and cold running shower, mosquito nets, free toiletries, free bottled water, shoes, towels, and more. Each room has a patio, a big sitting area, and a private wooden balcony where you can relax and enjoy the view of the canopy forest and the area around it.

The beds in the rooms are very good, very comfy, and very clean. The rooms come in a range of sizes, with single beds for one person, double beds, twin beds, triple beds, and cabins for families. Prices start at $150 or more per person per night, and they are always a bit higher during the high season.

The cabin has a WIFI hotspot in the main building so that guests can stay in touch with their friends and family.

There is a standby generator, plenty of parking, washing and housekeeping services, and pick-up and drop-off services at the airport.

While at the camp, you can go gorilla trekking because the tracking point is close by, bird watching in the bush, and nature walks in nearby towns.

The most popular and best national park in the south-western part of Uganda is Bwindi Forest Impenetrable National Park. More rare mountain gorillas live in the park. There are 19 groups of gorillas in the park. The park takes up a total of 330.8 square kilometers. In Bwindi National Park, there are more than 600 mountain gorillas.

Nineteen gorilla groups live there and are used to it. There are 4 different areas in the park where you can go gorilla trekking: the Nkuringo sector, the Rushaga sector, the Buhoma sector, and the Ruhijah sector.  Along with the lodge, there are three gorilla families living in the Ruhijah Sector. These are the Bitukura, Kyaguriro, and oruzongo families.

While living in Ruhijah, you can also keep an eye on Nkuringo and Nyakagezi. Among the different parts of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the Ruhijah section has the most beautiful views of the forest sky and is the most popular and best-known.  A gorilla pass in Bwindi costs $800. There are over 786 mountain gorillas in the world.

Nearly half of the people who live in Uganda live in the Ruhijah community rest camp. Most of them live in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, while the others live in Mgahinga National Park.  There are different types of lodging in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, including cheap, moderate, and high-end options.

When is the best time to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park?

February, March, June, July, September, October, and December. While you’re in the park, you can go gorilla trekking, gorilla habituation, walk the Batwa trail, watch birds, do nature and forest walks, go on community tours in Bwindi Forest, visit Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda, go golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga National Park, and do many other attractions.
