Day 1: Arrival for an exhilarating journey through the heart of Rwanda

Today marks the beginning of an incredible journey as you embark on a wildlife and gorilla safari in Rwanda. Your Kagera Safaris driver guide will be there to greet you at your hotel or upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport.

Day 2: Explore the vibrant streets of Kigali and discover the heart of the Reconciliation Village

Your morning will begin with an exploration of the reconciliation village near Kigali, where you will encounter the poignant narratives of genocide survivors coexisting with those who once committed the atrocities. If you have any time left after this experience, be sure to explore the Kigali genocide memorial, Kandt museum, and browse for art and crafts.

Day 3: Journey to Akagera National Park | exhilarating boat safari

After breakfast, you will embark on an exploration of the remaining sites you may have overlooked in Kigali. Your adventure begins as you set off towards Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda, making exciting stopovers for photography and restroom breaks along the way. Upon your arrival at the park, settle into your lodge and savor a delightful lunch. After lunch, embark on an exhilarating boat safari on Lake Ihema, where you will seek out Crocodiles, Hippos, a variety of bird species, and the occasional sighting of Elephants and Buffaloes along the shores.

Day 4: Exciting game drive and thrilling boat safari

Embark on an exhilarating full-day game drive in the northern region of the park, where we will seek out the magnificent large mammals that roam this captivating landscape. Among them are Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Buffaloes, Impalas, Waterbucks, the elusive Leopard, Rhinos, and the re-introduced lions. Embark on the lake shore track, where you will encounter a vibrant array of wildlife, leading you to the expansive northern plains.

During this thrilling game drive, you will find special spots for picnics and restrooms to make your experience more comfortable.

In the past, a thrilling challenge arose between humans and wildlife in this area, which was cleverly addressed by erecting a fence along one side of the park close to the communities.

Day 5: Explore a homestead for an immersive Rwandan cultural experience

We will explore a homestead of cattle keepers and participate in various exciting activities. We begin our day at the crack of dawn, hand-milking the cows instead of relying on machines. The herdsman will lead you on an exciting journey to learn how to calm the cow and expertly milk it. After the session, you lead the cows out for their day’s exploration in the fields. You will discover the traditional methods of transforming milk into various delightful products such as ghee and yoghurt.

Day 6: Journey to the Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you embark on a journey to the volcanoes national park. The park can be found in the northern region of Rwanda, roughly a 2 hour and 30 minute drive from Kigali. As you journey north towards the volcanoes, a world of photography awaits you at every turn. We will reach the lodge later that evening, eagerly anticipating the gorilla hike the following day.

Travel duration – 6 hours by car or a swift 35 minutes by helicopter (Robinson). Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 7: Embarking on a thrilling journey to trek with gorillas in Volcanoes National Park

Following the briefing, you will be assigned a gorilla family and paired with a ranger guide who will lead your group through the forest. Your driver guide will inform you if a short drive is necessary before embarking on the trail leading to the jungles of the Virunga Volcano.

This encounter in the wilderness is truly unparalleled, leaving an indelible mark on your memory as you stand eye to eye with a family of mountain gorillas. You have just one hour to seek them out before you begin your journey back.

Today we will journey to the gorilla guardians village, previously known as Iby’iwacu cultural village. A portion of the day will be dedicated to exploring the traditional lifestyles of the Rwandan people, culminating in the unique experience of engaging with a King and Queen. Experience an exhilarating traditional dance by the group, and discover the fascinating process behind their traditional beer and local cuisines.

The remainder of the day will be immersed in the community, where you will explore a village home and engage in their everyday activities. You will embark on a culinary journey together, crafting a meal that you will later savor and relish together.

Day 9: Conclusion of the Rwanda Cultural Experience Expedition
