In Akagera National Park, you will encounter a thrilling array of savanna wildlife, including lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, hyenas, Maasai giraffes, zebras, roan antelopes, birds, warthogs, hippos, and crocodiles. Nyungwe Forest National Park presents an extraordinary chimpanzee trekking journey in its two primary regions: Cyamudongo and Uwinka. This vibrant tropical rainforest hosts 13 species of primates, including around 500 chimpanzees.

Day 1: Arrival and Exploration of Kigali
As you step into Kigali International Airport, our company representative will be there to greet you. Following a brief introduction, you’ll embark on a journey to your pre-arranged hotel, where you can settle in and savor a delightful lunch.
In the afternoon, embark on a journey through the historical sites of Kigali, discovering the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the former presidential palace, and the vibrant local markets like Kimironko Market. Head back to your hotel for a delightful dinner and a cozy night’s rest.
Day 2: Journey to Akagera National Park
After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, connect with your driver/guide and embark on an exciting 2.5-hour journey to Akagera National Park, nestled in Rwanda’s Eastern Province. This is Rwanda’s oldest park and the sole savanna wilderness in the country, renowned for providing thrilling encounters with the Big Five.
Get there ahead of time, settle into your lodge, and unwind. After lunch, set off for an exhilarating afternoon game drive. Prepare to encounter an array of wildlife including impalas, lions, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, roan antelopes, zebras, giraffes, and a variety of bird species.
Day 3: Exciting Game Drive and Scenic Boat Cruise on Lake Ihema
Begin your day with an exhilarating early morning game drive along the park’s wildlife trails. Keep your eyes peeled for cape buffaloes, leopards, lions, giraffes, waterbucks, bushbucks, elephants, rhinos, warthogs, and a variety of birds. The game drive will take 2-3 hours of exhilarating exploration.
Following a delightful lunch at the lodge, embark on a thrilling 2-3 hour boat safari on Lake Ihema. Prepare for an exciting experience as you encounter fascinating aquatic wildlife, including crocodiles and hippos, alongside remarkable water birds such as African fish eagles, herons, and kingfishers.
Day 4: Journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, embark on a journey from Akagera National Park to Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda’s Southern Province. This park boasts a vibrant array of 13 primate species.
As you journey, make sure to pause in Butare to explore the King’s Palace and the Ethnographic Museum. After lunch, embark on your journey to the lodge nestled near Nyungwe Forest, where you will unwind and enjoy a restful night.
Day 5: Exploring the Chimpanzees and Strolling Through the Canopy
Start your day with a hearty breakfast, then gather at the Uwinka reception for an exciting briefing on the rules of chimpanzee trekking. Nyungwe Forest boasts a vibrant population of around 500 chimpanzees, alongside 12 other fascinating primate species.
The journey unfolds over 2-4 hours, featuring an hour dedicated to observing and capturing the enchanting moments of the chimpanzees. Head back to your lodge for a delightful lunch experience.
In the afternoon, embark on a unique canopy walk experience, the sole one of its kind in East Africa. Immerse yourself in breathtaking vistas of the forest, while keeping an eye out for playful primates, vibrant birds, and extraordinary plants as you stroll along the suspended bridge.
Day 6: Journey Back to Kigali
After breakfast, leave the lodge and set off on an exciting 6-hour drive back to Kigali. Upon arriving in Kigali, you have the option to settle into a hotel or head straight to the airport for your departure flight. Your 6-Day Rwanda Safari comes to a thrilling conclusion.
