Day 1: Journey from Dar es Salaam to the enchanting Stone Town, Zanzibar Island – Tanzania

Your journey from Zanzibar to the Serengeti in Tanzania begins in Dar es Salaam, where you gather with your overland tour group, ready for an exhilarating experience. Next, we hop on the local ferry from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town, the vibrant capital of Zanzibar Island.

Upon reaching the main island of Zanzibar, we set off to our overnight hotel nestled in the heart of Stone Town. This historic town, with its winding narrow alleyways and intricately carved wooden doorways, was once a bustling hub on the ancient slave and spice trade routes.

Days 2 and 3: Beach Resort, Zanzibar Island – Tanzania

On the morning of Day 2, dive into the captivating history and distinctive architecture of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as you wander through its narrow, winding streets on a walking tour. Exciting highlights feature the historical Old Fort and House of Wonders, and we will glide by the birthplace of one of Zanzibar’s most renowned figures, singer Freddy Mercury.

Then it is time to embark on our journey to the enchanting shores of Zanzibar. On our journey from Stone Town to the beach resort on the east coast, we take a moment to explore a local spice plantation. We embark on an exciting guided walking tour of the plantation and the nearby village, discovering the ongoing significance of the spice trade for the people of Zanzibar. Observe the farm workers as they skillfully ascend their trees, on a quest for unique spice crops. There will be an opportunity to purchase some vibrant spices straight from the farm.

We then embark on our journey to the beach The next 2 days are free for you to enjoy the tropical beaches and explore this piece of paradise. Relax on the sun-kissed beaches, dive into the inviting tropical waters, and explore the amazing experiences available. Exciting watersports and ocean activities await, ranging from snorkelling and fishing to scuba diving and traditional dhow sailing adventures. Make sure to chat with your guides about all the thrilling activities available. Your stay will include 2 nights in shared en-suite bedrooms at the beach resort.

Day 4: Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam & Bagamoyo – Tanzania

This morning on our Zanzibar & Tanzania Safari, we have a chance for one last exploration before departing from the beach paradise of Zanzibar Islands. We’ll catch the ferry back to Dar es Salaam on the mainland of Tanzania, where our safari truck is ready for the next leg of our journey.

Then our journey from Zanzibar to Serengeti Tanzania Embark on a journey to the historic coastal town of Bagamoyo, a place that once thrived as a significant port in the slave and spice trade route along the East Coast of Africa. Today, this place is celebrated for its iconic traditional wooden dhow boats crafted right here. As we reach the lively town, we head towards our next overnight destination, a campsite nestled by the shore.

The rest of the afternoon invites you to dive into the inviting Indian Ocean, wander along the sandy shores, and soak in the breathtaking sea views as the sun sets.

Day 5: Arusha – Tanzania

Today our Overland Camping Tour takes us along a breathtaking route up the coast of Tanzania and then ventures inland to Arusha, the entry point to the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit and a popular base for those aiming to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro nearby. The renowned Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area stand out as the most celebrated spots on the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit.

We spend the night at a campsite in the lively town of Arusha, nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, the fifth-highest peak in Africa. This vibrant town is nestled in an elevated region of Tanzania, boasting a refreshing climate and verdant hills that invite exploration. We must get ready for the exciting 3-night journey through the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti Safari that awaits us. We will prepare a compact overnight bag for this journey as we will be exploring in smaller 4×4 game-viewing safari vehicles.

Day 6: Journey from Arusha to Karatu – Tanzania

Setting off from Arusha in our compact vehicles today, we journey to Karatu, nestled in the breathtaking Ngorongoro Highlands of Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. This bustling little town is nestled between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, making it an ideal starting point for adventures in the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit. On our journey, we pause at Mto wa Mbu village and wander through the lively local market of this rural agricultural town.

Day 7 & 8: Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti National Park (Seronera) – Tanzania

Awaken with the sun on Day 7 of our Zanzibar Holiday & Tanzania Safari, ready for an exhilarating day of 4×4 game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater. You are collected from the safari lodge in Karatu and set off for Ngorongoro where most of the morning is spent exploring.

The Ngorongoro Crater is an extinct volcanic caldera which forms a giant natural amphitheatre that hosts one of the densest animal populations in Africa, meaning that there is superb wildlife viewing to be had. Creatures wander unrestrained in the crater, including vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, and various types of antelope. Not far behind are the predators who feed on them.

Next, our Africa Overland Tour journeys to the nearby Serengeti National Park. As we step into the iconic Serengeti, we embark on an exhilarating game drive toward our overnight camp nestled in the Seronera region, right at the core of the park. We immerse ourselves in our cozy tented safari camp, where breathtaking vistas of the untamed plains unfold before us. This will be our base for the next 2 nights. Relax and take in the breathtaking sunset over the Serengeti as you savor a refreshing drink, all while keeping an eye out for wildlife from the cozy confines of your safari tent.

You have the option to take a Hot Air Balloon flight over the sweeping Serengeti Plains for the ultimate view. However, keep in mind that this requires advance booking and is subject to the whims of the weather.

On Day 8 of our Overland Africa Safari, we dive into the wonders of Serengeti National Park, focusing on the Seronera region in central Serengeti, renowned for its remarkable big cat sightings thanks to the abundant population of these majestic creatures.

Day 10: Journey from Arusha to Nairobi – Kenya

Today we embark on a journey northeast from Arusha, making our way to the Kenya border. When the skies are clear, the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro stands proudly in the distance. After finishing the border formalities, we journey through the picturesque rural landscapes of Kenya, making our way north to the vibrant capital, Nairobi, where this remarkable Zanzibar to Serengeti Tanzania Safari concludes.
