Your journey begins in Dar es Salaam, where you gather with your overland tour group, ready to embark on an exciting adventure through Zanzibar Island and Tanzania. Next, we hop on the local ferry from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town, the vibrant capital of Zanzibar Island.

Upon reaching the main island of Zanzibar, we set off to our overnight hotel nestled in the heart of Stone Town. This historic town, with its winding narrow alleyways and intricately carved wooden doorways, was once a bustling hub on the ancient slave and spice trade routes.

Days 2 and 3: Beach Resort, Zanzibar Island – Tanzania

On the morning of Day 2, dive into the captivating history and distinctive architecture of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as you explore its narrow, winding streets on a walking tour. Exciting highlights feature the historical Old Fort and House of Wonders, and we will glide past the birthplace of one of Zanzibar’s most renowned figures, singer Freddy Mercury.

Then it is time to embark on our exciting journey to the Zanzibar beach holiday destination. On our journey from Stone Town to the beach resort on the east coast, we take a delightful detour to explore a local spice plantation. We embark on an exciting guided walking tour of the plantation and the nearby village, immersing ourselves in the rich history of the spice trade and its ongoing significance for the residents of Zanzibar. Observe the farm workers skillfully ascend their trees, on a quest for unique plants. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase fresh spices straight from the spice farms.

We then embark on our journey to the beach The next 2 days await you to revel in the tropical beaches and uncover the wonders of this paradise. Relax on the sun-kissed beaches, dive into the inviting turquoise waters, and explore the thrilling experiences available. Day 4: Journey from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam & Bagamoyo – Tanzania

This morning on our Zanzibar Island & Tanzania Safari, we have a chance for one last adventure before departing from the beach paradise of Zanzibar Islands. We’ll catch the ferry back to Dar es Salaam on the mainland of Tanzania, where our safari truck is ready to take us on our next journey.

Next, our journey takes us to the historic coastal town of Bagamoyo, a place that once thrived as a significant port in the slave and spice trade route along the East Coast of Africa. This place is renowned for its traditional dhow boats crafted right here. Arriving in the vibrant town we make our way to our next overnight stay, located along the beach.

The rest of the afternoon invites you to dive into the inviting Indian Ocean, wander along the beach, and soak in the breathtaking sea views as the sun sets.

Day 5: Arusha – Tanzania

Today our Africa Overland Tour takes us along a breathtaking route up the coast of Tanzania and then ventures inland to Arusha, the gateway to the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit and a prime spot for those looking to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro nearby. The renowned Serengeti National Park and the majestic Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area stand out as the premier spots on the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit.

We spend the night in the lively town of Arusha, nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, the fifth-highest peak in Africa. This vibrant town is nestled in an elevated region of Tanzania, boasting a refreshing climate and verdant hills that invite exploration. We are gearing up for an exciting 3-night journey through the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti Safari that awaits us. We will pack a compact overnight bag for this journey as we will be exploring in smaller 4×4 game viewing safari vehicles.

Day 6: Journey from Arusha to Karatu – Tanzania

Setting off from Arusha in our compact vehicles today, we journey towards Karatu, nestled in the breathtaking Ngorongoro Highlands of Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. This busy small town lies between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater serving as a perfect base for exploring the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit. On our journey, we pause at Mto wa Mbu village and wander through the lively local market of this rural agricultural town.

Days 7 and 8: Exploring the Ngorongoro Crater and the vast Serengeti National Park (Seronera) – Tanzania

Awaken with the dawn on Day 7 of our Zanzibar Island & Tanzania Safari for an exhilarating day of 4×4 game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater. You are picked up from the safari lodge in Karatu and embark on an exciting journey to Ngorongoro, where the morning is filled with exploration.

The Ngorongoro Crater is an extinct volcanic caldera that creates a vast natural amphitheatre, teeming with one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, offering incredible opportunities for wildlife viewing. Creatures wander unrestrained in the crater, including vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, and various types of antelope. Close on their heels are the hunters that seek to make them their next meal.

Next, our Africa Overland Tour journeys to the nearby Serengeti National Park. As we step into the iconic Serengeti, we embark on an exhilarating game drive towards our overnight camp nestled in the Seronera region, right at the core of the park. We immerse ourselves in our cozy tented safari camp, which offers breathtaking vistas of the untamed plains. This will be our base for the next 2 nights. Relax and take in the breathtaking sunset over the Serengeti as you savor a refreshing drink, all while keeping an eye out for wildlife from the cozy confines of your safari tent. Experience the thrill of a Hot Air Balloon flight soaring above the expansive Serengeti Plains for an unforgettable perspective. However, keep in mind that this requires advance booking and is subject to weather conditions.

Day 8 of our Overland Africa Safari is dedicated to discovering the wonders of Serengeti National Park, especially the Seronera region in central Serengeti, renowned for its remarkable big cat sightings thanks to the abundant population of these majestic creatures that flourish in the area.

Today we embark on a journey northeast from Arusha, making our way to the Kenya border. When the skies are clear, the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro comes into view, standing tall in the distance. Once border formalities are complete, we journey through the picturesque landscapes of rural Kenya, making our way north to the vibrant capital, Nairobi, where this remarkable Africa Overland Tour concludes.
