Day 1: Nairobi (Kenya) to Arusha – Tanzania
Our thrilling journey through Tanzania and Zanzibar begins in the vibrant heart of Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital. The journey begins with a drive south through the picturesque landscapes of rural Kenya, making our way toward the border of Tanzania.
The drive offers an exhilarating glimpse of the Great African Rift Valley, a vast and breathtaking landscape that spans more than 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) across Eastern Africa. It is a fascinating split in the earth’s crust formed by the shifting of tectonic plates, leading to breathtaking landscapes, a series of shimmering lakes, ancient volcanos, majestic mountains, and the rich wildlife that awaits us in the coming days. Depending on the weather, you might catch a glimpse of Africa’s iconic Mount Kilimanjaro rising majestically in the distance.
Once the border formalities are complete, we set off towards Arusha, nestled at the base of the majestic Mount Meru. This lively town is the gateway to Tanzania’s popular Northern Safari Circuit. We will spend the night in a cozy lodge.

Day 2: Arusha to Serengeti National Park (Seronera) – Tanzania
We gather in compact safari vehicles and set off for the famous Serengeti National Park today. Serengeti is an expansive terrain. The plains stretch endlessly, alive with the movement of millions of wildebeest, zebra, and other creatures as they embark on their renowned migration each year in pursuit of fresh grazing grounds. Woodlands and kopjes punctuate the scenery, their rocky outcrops standing as watchful sentinels for lions and leopards. We will be staying at a tented camp in the heart of the Seronera region of Serengeti National Park, famous for its remarkable lion population. The riverine forest along the Seronera River is a captivating sanctuary for the elusive leopards.
We are set to embark on our inaugural game viewing drive through the park before making our way to camp. We will spend the night in exquisite safari tents that offer en-suite bathrooms, providing a unique and immersive experience. The camp offers breathtaking vistas, allowing for evenings filled with the delightful sights and sounds of nature from the cozy embrace of your campsite.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park – Tanzania
On Day 3 of our Tanzania Safari, we dive into the wonders of Serengeti National Park. We will set off on an exhilarating day of exploration, eagerly searching for the animals and birds that may appear along our journey. Discover the allure of Seronera, renowned for its abundant population of majestic big cats that flourish in this remarkable landscape. It is a remarkable location in the Serengeti for observing rhinos, along with a variety of other wildlife such as elephants and vast herds of grazers including buffalos, zebras, wildebeest, and numerous antelope species.
After a thrilling day immersed in the wonders of Serengeti’s wildlife, we journey out of the park to a cozy lodge nestled in the village of Karatu, just a stone’s throw away.

Day 4: Journey from Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater & Karatu – Tanzania
Today, our thrilling journey through Tanzania leads us to one of its breathtaking wonders, Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro is a remnant of a long-ago volcano, a caldera crater that plunges about 600 meters (2,000 ft) into a vast natural amphitheater, teeming with the richest large animal populations in Africa. Within this stunning sanctuary, you’ll encounter a vibrant tapestry of African wildlife that we will discover from the comfort of our safari vehicle.
After an unforgettable wildlife viewing experience in the Ngorongoro Crater, we climb back to the edge of the caldera and journey back to the nearby village of Karatu.

Day 5: Karatu to Arusha – Tanzania
On day five, we embark on a journey back to Arusha, traveling through the breathtaking Great Rift Valley. We pause to explore the village of Mto wa Mbu and immerse ourselves in the vibrant local market. The area is known for its rice crops and a distinctive red-colored banana which grows here. This evening we unwind at the cozy lodge in Arusha, reflecting on our unforgettable experiences with the wildlife in Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 6: Bagamoyo – Tanzania
Today our adventure-packed Africa Overland Tour journeys out of the cool highlands of Tanzania, down to the balmy coastline of the Indian Ocean. We are headed for the town of Bagamoyo, just north of Dar es Salaam, where we will overnight in a comfortable lodge.
Bagamoyo town, established in the late 1700s, emerged as a significant trading port engaged in the slave and ivory trade. The architecture tells a story, showcasing a vibrant blend of Arabic, German, and Swahili influences. Bagamoyo serves as a vibrant hub for crafting traditional wooden dhouw boats, which frequently grace the shores of the Indian Ocean coast.

Days 7 & 8: Coastal Retreat, Zanzibar Island – Tanzania
Day 7 kicks off the thrilling beach segment of our journey. We set off at dawn, journeying south towards the vibrant city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s capital. From here, we hop on a local ferry to the enchanting island of Zanzibar. Upon reaching the enchanting Stone Town, we hop on our transfer, making our way to the captivating east shore where our lodge awaits. Get ready to unwind and embrace the thrill of the beach as you kick off your shoes and dive into relaxation.
On Day 8 of our Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar Holiday, you have the freedom to discover the wonders of Zanzibar Island at your own pace. Enjoy a day of leisure at the infinity pool or bask in the sun on the pristine white sand beaches. Embark on a thrilling bicycle ride or dive into the exciting optional water sport activities available, ranging from snorkelling to fishing or scuba diving. Embark on a journey in a dhow sailing boat, discover the islands with a knowledgeable guide, or hop on a scooter and venture out independently. Today we embark on a journey back south to Stone Town, a historic hub that once thrived on the slave and spice trade routes. This beautiful island is alive with vibrant flavors, and we take a moment to explore a spice plantation on our journey. Embark on a guided walking tour of the plantations and villages to discover the fascinating spices that flourish in this region and the intricacies of the contemporary spice trade. Watch as the farm workers ascend trees in pursuit of unique plants and seize the opportunity to purchase fresh spices from the local farmers. Following our spice tour, we journey south to Stone Town, where we will spend our last night on the enchanting Zanzibar Island.
Stone Town is a maze of historic structures and winding paths established in the 1830s when Sultan Seyyid Said relocated his capital from Muscat in Oman to Zanzibar. The coral stone buildings, adorned with intricately carved wooden doors, whisper tales of a time rich in Swahili and Islamic heritage. We embark on a walking tour through Stone Town, discovering its rich tapestry of cultures, intriguing history, and distinctive architecture. We also discover the birthplace of Zanzibar’s most renowned figure, Freddy Mercury. Then you can explore the fresh produce and the numerous restaurants available.

Day 10: Journey from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam – Tanzania
Spend the last morning of your safari discovering the vibrant blend of cultures and styles in the charming streets of Stone Town. Stroll through the charming cobbled streets and soak up the lively ambiance of the town, explore the bustling markets, and indulge in the delicious fresh seafood.
